A New Start

You know how sometimes you're walking through Kirkland's or Pier 1 - and you see a piece of art for sale that just grabs you, and makes you want to paint something like that?  Well, that's what happened to me a couple of months ago.

So, I went to a painting club a few weeks ago (dragging all the stuff I thought I would need) - and I made this "start".  Collaged on papers, then painted over and just messed around.  The background is still not finished, and I'm not sure exactly what will go on top yet, but I'm liking the way it's starting to look.  This is a large painting (24" x 26"), and I have another canvas the same size that I would like to do something that would go with this one.  Usually, that doesn't happen, so we'll see.

But, I did discover that painting club won't be for me.  I realized that the way I like to paint requires me to have EVERYTHING close by - since I never know what I'll want to use!  So, unless I go back to watercolor, I'll be painting alone.

It's really hard to do collage and paint spontaneously away from home. It takes a whole lot of packing and carrying. I try to keep it simple and go because I love the creative energy. Our group is just called "Open Painting". I try to get a long table to myself in the corner so I can spread out and not be in anyone's way.
I love your start, it's got lots of promise.

Glad you are getting back ito doing what you do best. Moving is such hardwork. I love your new collage in progress. I agree about working alone, you can pack only so much and yet you could use that little something left at home to compliment your work. The only good thing is the camaderie of the people who share your passion but in the end your studio is your oasis.

Thanks for your nice comments! I love to be in the company of other artists - but I don't love schlepping all that stuff! I'm sure that I'll work it out somehow!
