Art in the Park

We had the most beautiful weather today for Art in the Park! We're in the Pavilion, so it was nice and cool in there -- and lots of artists were painting out in the park. Lots and lots of dogs came by to see us, too!
I spent a little time painting outside. Not exactly a Monet -- I don't think I like painting plein air, even though I was sure that I would!

5" x 7 " Watercolor

We're supposed to get really bad rain and wind tonight, so I'm not sure if we'll be having the show tomorrow. I'll get there early and find out. So far, I've sold another bookmark! YAY!

Glorious Morning!

9" x 12" Watercolor

This morning, the weather was perfect! And, since I can't paint in my studio (which is covered with fabric and sewing stuff for the moment) - I took my painting stuff out by the pool and painted my version of this month's Virtual Sketch Date challenge. The photo was offered by Debbie Later. Thank you, Debbie!

I also opened my Flickr account. VSD wants us to post these photos on the group page, so I thought I better figure it all out! All this computer time is tiring! And, I'm no spring chicken, so it takes me longer than it would my grandkids!

Tomorrow is the first day of Art in the Park at Rainbow Springs here in Dunnellon. I'll be showing and selling again. It's supposed to be a gorgeous day tomorrow, with maybe rain on Sunday. Hope the show is successfull!

Art Aerobics

Through another artist's blog (sorry, I don't remember whose) - I found this cool, new, free, daily newsletter: A Day in the Arts. It's a 3 page newsletter dedicated to talking about the arts in a friendly, non-intimidating manner. You can have it sent to you daily. On the last page, they offer "Art Aerobics" - little exercises for you to do. Today, it was to paint your favorite mug.

So, I learned that I need to do a lot more drawing! But, that's the beauty of it - if someone gives you the challenge, you should go for it! I know I will!

A Pot of Crotons

9" x 12" Watercolor

I saw this photo in the St. Petersburg Times over the weekend, and thought it would be great to paint -- so this is what I painted in Marilee's class today. I'm sure there are things that I will tweak, but Pat's class is canceled for tomorrow.

I haven't been painting for awhile -- I've been sewing fabric bowls for the Art and Craft show in March. But, I'm getting pretty burned out with that, so maybe I'll get back to some painting this week. Art in the Park at Rainbow Springs is this weekend. Maybe I'll be luckier this time!

Simple Landscape

9" x 12" Watercolor

Yesterday in Pat's class, we painted simple landscapes using wet-in-wet techniques. It was a fun little exercise.

Hawaiian Home

9" x 12" Watercolor

This is what I painted yesterday in Marilee's class. It was from a picture in a book -- I've never been to Hawaii, but I would like to think that this might represent. Anyway, it was fun - and I loved using all the bright colors.

Busy Weekend

First off, I took my paintings to the Homosassa Wildlife Park for the show -- there was a LOT of art in that show! And, there was a lot of traffic at the park! Unfortunately for me, I guess no one liked MY art -- I sold a total of 1 Bookmark! Oh well, there's another 2 shows to go this month. Speaking of............

I signed up for the Arts & Craft Show and Sale at The Art Center of Citrus County, to be held on March 7. In this show, we will have a table and be able to sell crafts, as well as art. So, I decided to make some fabric bowls and see how they will go.

Then on Sunday, two of our grandkids spent the day with us while their parents went to Daytona for the race.

David spent most of the day playing games on the computer.............(Yikes! What a mess!)

While Victoria learned how to make a fabric bowl. It was a fine weekend!

Paul George Demo

Today was Watercolor Club -- our demo today was done by Paul George, an amazing watercolorist! He is also doing a 2-day workshop this weekend, which I'm not able to attend. Bummer!

He did this painting of white water and rocks in a little over an hour -- and then said that he will donate it to our club to do a raffle with. It was an amazing demo!

The finished painting!
Tomorrow and Sunday will be the art show -- can't wait! Hope I manage to sell something!

New Bookmarks

Here are the new bookmarks that I've been working on. It started with a project in Pat's class a couple of weeks ago. We were experimenting with textures, and using all kinds of interesting things to stencil with. I really didn't like what I had done, but I was looking at it the other day, and thought about cutting it up into bookmarks. I liked the concept, but decided to try some more things, and now I really like these bookmarks. I've made about 15-20, and laminated them and will have them for sale this weekend at the show.

Pansy Parade

9" x 12" Watercolor

The Watercolor Club that I belong to is having a show and sale this coming weekend at the beautiful Homosassa Wildlife Park. This will be the first time I've ever participated in one, and I'm kind of excited and scared at the same time. With the economy the way it is, I really don't expect to sell anything, but I must admit that I'll be disappointed if I don't.

This weekend I've been working on making some different bookmarks that I can sell cheap -- maybe those will sell! I'll post pictures of them later. Don't know how much actual painting I'll be doing this week, since I'm busy matting, framing, etc. Wish me luck!

It's Puzzling!

All my life, I've loved 2 things - cats and jigsaw puzzles. Those of you who have cats understand that the two cannot be enjoyed together! In fact, I haven't been able to work on jigsaw puzzles, unless I have a room that can be closed off. This hasn't been my lifestyle since I can't remember when.
Imagine my surprise, then, when I decided to try to do a puzzle last week, and set up a table in my sunroom, worked my puzzle, and the cats actually left it alone! Not once did I have to clean up puzzle pieces off the floor. Not once did I have to scream, yell and cry! This is amazing to me since Miss Penny's favorite thing to do is get on tables and push things off onto the floor. The one above, took me a few days to complete -- and I left it unattended overnight and several other times and nothing was touched!
Glory Be! I now have another hobby to distract me from painting!

Sunflowers

9" x 12" Watercolor

Another flower day at Marilee's class! This time, sunflowers! These were fun to paint - and nice since it was a dreary, rainy day today!
